42 cases of salmonellosis with a strain belonging to the epidemic were identified, as of April 19, 2022, by the National Reference Center (CNR) for salmonella at the Institut Pasteur in France. 11 of the 13 metropolitan regions are affected, including Brittany, specifies Public Health France in a press release.

Kinder clearly involved

Two cases have been identified in Brittany without knowing the precise location or age of the victims of salmonellosis. Overall, these are children whose the median age is three years and of the 42 cases there are 22 boys and 20 girls. Thirty-two cases, out of the 42, could be questioned by Public Health France and all these children report that they had consumed Kinder chocolates before the onset of the symptoms which occurred between January 20 and February 23, 2022.

No deaths

Thirteen people were hospitalized. No deaths were reported and all affected children returned to their homes.Public Health France continues its investigations with the families of cases recently reported by the CNR“says the press release. Since the first revelations, the factory of the Belgian manufacturer, belonging to the Ferrero group, has been closed and the offending products have been recalled and withdrawn from sale. Anyone who presents with gastrointestinal disorders or fever within 72 hours after consumption, after eating Kinder chocolates, are invited to consult their doctor as soon as possible.
