Two cars burn at the Bread Festival in the Dordogne, the town hall questions the maintenance of the fireworks

Many curious people saw the incident and posted photos on social networks, during the first evening of the Bread Festival in Mensignac, this Wednesday evening July 13. Two cars parked in one of the festival car parks burned down, according to the gendarmes, who were called at 11:17 p.m. A Kangoo and a Scénic were completely burnt out.

It was a first vehicle that caught fire and the flames spread to the second. A third vehicle was slightly damaged, but the organization of the festival very quickly cleared the surrounding cars pulling them away from the flames with ropes and a forklift. One of the organization’s members has superficial burns to his hands after trying to move one of the cars. Another person inhaled smoke from the fire.

The town hall consulted the prefecture on the maintenance of the fireworks

According to the police, witnesses say the fire started due to fallout from the fireworks shot at the same time on the festival. The organizer Lionel Boisseau formally denies, for him it is impossible: “We are asked when we fire a firework to respect a regulatory zone of 150 meters. There the vehicle was at least 250 meters from the place of the shooting, well beyond”, he assures. A witness to the fire, interviewed by France Blue Perigordalso claims that the fire started before the start of the fireworks.

The mayor of Mensignac, Véronique Chabreyrou, reacted by asking the prefecture whether or not to maintain the other two fireworks scheduled for Thursday July 14 and Friday July 15, during the other two evenings of the Bread Festival, “as a precaution”said the chosen one. The response was expected by midday. The Bread Festival fireworks are fired by a professional pyrotechnician and comply with all the regulations in force, according to the organizers.
