Former US President Barack Obama included works by Kate Beaton and Emily St. John Mandel, two Canadian authors, on his list of favorite books of the year.
His annual popular culture roundup includes the autobiographical comic strip of Mme beaton Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands published by Drawn & Quarterly, a Montreal publishing house.

The book recounts her experience as a woman while working in the Alberta oil sands to pay off her student loans.
Emily St. John Mandel also made the famous list with her sixth novel, Sea of Tranquilitywhich she wrote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Published by HarperCollins Canada, the book follows a set of characters separated by time and space, but connected by a time traveler.
The previous work of Mme Mandel, The Glass Hotelhad also been part of the list of Barack Obama in 2020.
