bangkok | Interpol has issued red notices against two Canadians suspected of being involved in the murder of an Indian gangster, shot dead last week in Thailand.
These wanted notices are for Matthew Leandre Ovide Dupre and Gene Karl Lahkramp, two 36-year-old Canadian nationals who left Thailand on February 6.
The two men are described as “armed and dangerous”, according to notices released Monday evening.
They are suspected of being involved in the murder, two days earlier, of Jimi Sandhu, 32, targeted by several shots near a luxury villa in the seaside resort of Phuket.
Two men were behind the shooting, according to CCTV footage collected by investigators.
“They had planned everything, they certainly received help in Canada and Thailand” to carry out the operation, Khemmarin Hassiri of the Royal Thai Police told AFP.
Jimi Sandhu is an Indian mobster who has come into conflict with the law many times.
A former gang leader in Canada, he had been convicted of multiple offenses and had been returned to his country in 2016, according to Canadian media.
Two years later, he was detained in India for being involved in trafficking ketamine, according to Indian newspapers.
Jimi Sandhu had arrived in Thailand on a private jet from Malaysia last month.
Asked by AFP, the Canadian police were not immediately available to comment on this information.
