Two brothers sentenced to life in prison for murdering sex offender

Brothers Luke and Matthew Roe were sentenced to life in prison on Monday for beating a sex offender to death in July 2022.

They shot dead Henry Thwaites, 85, before dumping his body at the roadside in Nottinghamshire, UK.

Nottingham Crown Court had heard from the defendants a few days before the attack, about sexual assaults by Mr Thwaites on someone close to the Roe brothers, reports BBC.

They were sentenced to 24 and 25 years in prison respectively.

“Driven to his own death”

Mr. Thwaits, having already served two years in prison for molesting young boys under the age of 16, was a friend of the Roes’ mother.

He had come to visit her in July 2022, where the murder took place.

The man had recently inherited a large sum of money with which he bought a new car for his girlfriend.

He also offered to help her buy a new house.

On July 23, the Roe brothers convinced Thwaits to go for a drive and “drive him to his own death,” the judge said.

They went to an isolated area before going on the attack, inflicting 26 skull fractures.

The investigation determined that he had been assaulted with a “saw tooth” weapon.

The judge said the brothers stole Mr Thwaites’ Fiat Punto and bank card and went to nearby cash machines to try to make a withdrawal.
