The causes of the disaster are still unknown. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed on Sunday that“a very large explosion” [était] “probably the cause of the building’s collapse” from 17 rue de Tivoli in the night from Saturday to Sunday, around 1 am. For now, the cause of the explosion is “impossible” to be established, according to the prosecutor, but “Gas is obviously part of the tracks”.
Another building collapsed. Number 15 rue de Tivoli, partially damaged during the collapse of number 17, collapsed in turn on Sunday, early in the morning. Number 19 is also weakened.
