The healthcare staff working in the emergency department of the Côte Basque Hospital Center in Bayonne suffered two verbal and physical attacks on the weekend of August 3 and 4. This is what France Bleu Pays Basque learned on Sunday from the director of the establishment, confirming information from the newspaper South West.
The first attack took place on the night of Friday to Saturday. A patient became angry when he woke up in a room in the emergency department. He hit, made death threats against the staff and damaged equipment. The police had to intervene to help members of staff control him.
The second attack took place this Sunday, early in the morning. A man, who admitted to having taken drugs, was admitted to the emergency room. He also got carried away, insulted and threatened many people before taking out a box cutter that he had in his pocket. The gendarmerie and the police intervened to neutralize him.
