Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, the situation in the Middle East has been one of the concerns of American students. In New Jersey, two students, one Jewish, the other Muslim, launched an appeal to promote dialogue.

It all started in October 2023, with the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. In a small town in New Irsey (United States), where 40% of the population is Jewish, tensions with the large Muslim community were palpable, even in the corridors of the high school. Then, two high school girls react: Liora and Rawda, one Jewish, the other Muslim. They are launching a call for dialogue on social networks.

Discussion groups created

“I was originally going to protest, but I decided to have a dialogue instead. I posted on Instagram asking who would be willing to organize educational events for teenagers. And Liora got excited,” says Rawda. Discussion groups are then created, with rules of conduct. “Everyone was asked to sign a contract stipulating that there would be no shouting, no personal attacks”explains Liora for her part.
