They demanded a “gas embargo, now” against Russia, denouncing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Two activists surprised German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Sunday August 21 in Berlin (Germany), by having their photo taken alongside the leader before undressing without warning and posing topless to demand this embargo.

The two activists took advantage of the government’s open days, organized this weekend, to access the German Chancellor. They were quickly taken away by security officials after their action denouncing Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine.

Despite desperately looking for another way, Germany, heavily dependent on Russian gas, has so far been unable to impose a full embargo on gas from Russia.

Olaf Scholz recalled on Sunday the efforts made by Berlin to find alternative sources of energy, including liquefied natural gas, the first terminals of which could be operational in early 2023.

“Then, our problem of security of supply can be solved at the beginning of 2024”, he continued. Germany, like many of its European neighbours, is set to experience energy shortages next winter.
