The twirling bushes, emblematic of American westerns, are very numerous in the cities of the western United States. Their multiplication astonishes the inhabitants.
Arriving from the desert and pushed by winds of nearly 100 km/h, twirling bushes, called “tumbleweeds” are taking over the cities of the Great American West. Bushes block roads, pile up in front of houses and even cause cars to disappear under branches. The residents pull out all the stops, like a backhoe loader, to create a path. “An almost three meter ball was coming towards my garage”testifies a resident.
A phenomenon of unprecedented scale
On social networks, residents share images worthy of a Hollywood western, where every outing turns into an obstacle course. The phenomenon is not new, but is taking on an unprecedented scale this year. At the end of winter, the plant detaches from its roots to fly away and disperse its seeds. The branches, covered in thorns, can be painful in the event of a collision.
