Who will end up winning the Giro 2022? The suspense is still complete three days before the finish in Verona. Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) has not let go of his pink leader’s jersey since he recovered it during the fourteenth stage. But his lead offers him no guarantee since the Australian Jai Hindley (Bora Hansgrohe) is only three seconds behind the Ecuadorian.
The mountainous route of the 19th stage, between Marano Lagunare and Santuario di Castelmonte (178km), is favorable for creating gaps in the general classification. The peloton will first have to climb two 3rd category passes, then a first category with a promising drop in Slovenia, the Kolovrat (10.4 km at 8.9%). After a long descent, the final will be settled uphill (2.3 km at 7.2%), even if the latter is not listed in the mountain classification.
