Twelve people were arrested in the Lyon region on Monday June 13 as part of an investigation into national drug trafficking, franceinfo learned on Monday from the departmental directorate of public security (DDSP) in Gironde.

After 96 hours in police custody, eight of these 12 people were indicted and remanded in custody on Friday. During these arrests, 600 kg of cannabis resin, 40 kg of grass and 5 kg of cocaine were seized, as well as firearms, including two assault rifles (an AK-47 and an M16), approximately 170,000 euros in cash, and luxury watches from the Rolex brand. The suspects are between 25 and 35 years old.

These arrests are the result of an investigation started two years ago in Gironde. In July 2020, a retired couple making many trips between France and Spain are suspected of transporting cannabis resin to supply traffic in the Bordeaux region. The couple was arrested in September the same year.

The investigation took a step forward in May 2021, thanks to the surveillance of the principals of this couple, with the seizure of a semi-trailer from Spain. Inside: nearly a ton of cannabis resin (950 kg) and 190,000 euros in cash. Several people are arrested.

The Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Bordeaux, in charge of the fight against organized crime, is then seized to try to identify the upper levels of the traffic and the principals. The investigators then discover that the latter are in the Lyon region.

The investigation is then carried out jointly between the DDSPs of Bordeaux and Lyon, under the direction of the same investigating judge, which “is out of the ordinary” according to Emmanuel Morin, departmental director of public security for Gironde. . It led to the 12 arrests last week and the dismantling of this drug trafficking.
