Twelve Normans at the start of the Route du Rhum

Nearly 45 years separate the experienced sailor from Cherbourg Halvard Mabire (five rum routes on the counter) from Martin Louchartthe youngest of the fleet.

The young 20-year-old skipper will take part in his first Route du Rhum like four other sailors from the region: Le Havrais Cedric ChateauHonfleur Pierre Louis AttwellCaennais Pierre Cazenave-Pere and the native of Mont Saint Aignan Xavier Macaireaccustomed to shining in the Solitaire du Figaro.

William Mathelin-Moreaux who learned to sail off Granville will line up at the age of 28 for his second Route du Rhum like the Granvillais Brieuc-Maisonneuve, far from the four participations of a Marc Lepesqueux which will line up with a brand new sailboat.

These nine competitors will set off on the smallest of the classes, the class 40, these sailboats a little over twelve meters long with the exception ofHalvard Mabire involved in Rhum Multi. No Normand is registered on the large trimarans of the Ultime class. On the other hand the Carteretais Louis Dukethe Seino-Marin Manuel Cousin and Le Havre Charlie Dalin will be helming Imocas, these large monohulls cut out for the Vendée Globe.
