Twelve new deaths linked to COVID-19

COVID-19 continues to claim victims and monopolize hospitals in Quebec.

In its report released on Friday, the government reported 12 new deaths, including three that occurred in the past 24 hours. Four people died two to seven days ago, and five more than seven days ago.

Hospitalizations have once again increased in the last hours, from 1785 to 1807, an increase of 22. Of these people hospitalized, 584 were being treated specifically for the disease.

In intensive care, the toll also increases; there are 46 people in all, including 24 due to illness, which represents an increase of 5.

There were still more than 3,700 healthcare workers withdrawn for illness-related reasons, a number that has been steadily increasing for the past few days.

The number of cases also stands at 955, a number that is certainly underestimated since the screening centers are reserved for priority clienteles. At least 102 infections detected by rapid tests must be added.

The positivity rate has also jumped to 10.4%, according to the Ministry of Health.

Small consolation for the government, the vaccination campaign is going well. Thursday, 22,321 Quebecers had received a dose of vaccine against COVID-19.

Quebec indicates that 29% of adults are up to date with their vaccination, that is to say that they have obtained a dose for less than five months. This figure rises to 65% among those aged 80 and over.
