Anti-feminist blogger Jean-Claude Rochefort, who praised Marc Lépine, was sentenced on Friday to 12 months in prison for inciting hatred against women.
The judge refused to let him serve his sentence in the community.
The 74-year-old man was found guilty of fomenting hatred towards women in publications in the fall of 2019, just before the commemorations of the December 6, 1989, massacre at the École Polytechnique, when 14 women had were assassinated by Marc Lépine.
Mr. Rochefort will have to go to prison. After his stay behind bars, he will then be subject to three years of probation.
