Cirque du Soleil: Without a Net

This 90-minute documentary takes us (pun intended) behind the scenes (another unintentional pun) of the show. O Cirque du Soleil’s Las Vegas show as it prepares to return to service after a 400-day shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the trailer, the film directed by Dawn Porter (Trapped) shows how the various artists, swimmers and acrobats got back into shape – and especially their stage that looks like a gigantic swimming pool – in the space of eight weeks. In one sequence, we see the former CEO of the company, Quebecer Daniel Lamarre, announcing to the teams that the Cirque is resuming its activities.

For her part, the weather presenter finds herself enjoying snorkeling and observing bats in the middle of the night. Previous episodes are available for free at tv5unis.ca. They feature Guylaine Tremblay and Hélène Bourgeois Leclerc, Catherine St-Laurent and Juliette Gosselin, as well as Pier-Luc Funk and Antoine Pilon.

Lisa Ann Walter and Sheryl Lee Ralph in Abbott Elementary

Aired last winter on ABC, the third season ofAbbott Elementary just landed on Disney+. The popular series also just picked up nine Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Actress (Quinta Brunson), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph), and Outstanding Supporting Actor (Tyler James Williams). With only 13 episodes due to the 2023 strikes in the United States (actors and writers), this sequel takes us back to one of Philadelphia’s worst public schools while maintaining the show’s signature docu-style. A big change this year: Janine (Brunson) now works for the school district… but always seems to find an excuse to visit her old colleagues.

Jimmy Fallon and Keke Palmer in Password

Because we used to watch Passwordits French adaptation, when it was hosted by Patrick Sabatier and broadcast on TV5, we were tempted by the American original. Piloted by Keke Palmer and starring Jimmy Fallon, Password has a simple but extremely effective concept: a celebrity must make someone in the audience guess words by giving clue words. And vice versa. In some ways, we preferred the French version, which is more uptight and serious. Because the American version wants to entertain at all costs. Jimmy Fallon in thick butter. His reactions are often exaggerated, whether he loses or wins. Nevertheless, we have a good time.

CTV and NBC, Tuesday at 10 p.m.
