A child of television, which still had only a few “stations”, the young Martin Carli had his essential shows, of course, but it was above all the musical themes of these productions that often accompanied him and which are unforgettable to him.

Martin, what children’s programs have marked you?
There are plenty ! The first one I remember – not so much for the show as such, since I was too young, but for its theme song – it’s the inevitable The Green Mouse ! I’m still able to sing the song, and I even have the vinyl. Otherwise, I remember shows that I loved like Grujot and Delicate, The Crazy Pirate, Fanfreluche, The Chiboukis, Nick and Peak and other wonderful shows from that era.
Which ones have been with you the longest?
The two most significant, over time: first bobino, that I watched every time I got home, every day of the week, then on weekends, Trifle with the “little guys” like “Touché la tortoise” or “Grand Galop et Petit Trot”! It was my inviolable weekend afternoon date. The family dinner could not start before the end of the show! A little later, my favorites were without a doubt Oralians and The 100 towers of Centour !
What are your fondest childhood TV memories?
In addition to children’s programming, there was the Saturday night hockey game with my dad and watching old classic black and white movies with my mom. It was my real initiation to cinema, always a great passion! And speaking of cinema, a seasonal event not to be missed: Cine-gift at “Radio-Québec” (at the time)! I still know complete scenes from Asterix films that I can recite on demand. I make an excellent Cleopatra!
Did you watch a lot of TV when you were young?
Yes and no… When I was little, there were very few “stations” on TV. I was watching specific things at specific times, but we mostly played outside a lot of the day.
Is there a character who influenced you?
No, but there was this feeling of closeness with Bobino even though my parents hadn’t yet come home from work.
Is there still a song from a show that sticks in your mind?
I honestly remember the theme songs more than the shows themselves. In the case of the broadcast TrifleI remember not only the intro music, but also the choreography of bars and geometric shapes that moved to the sound of the music.
What do you think of today’s youth TV?
I love the children’s TV made here with artisans from here. The quality of writing and interpretation is extremely inspiring! When my children were younger, the days all started with Télé-Québec!
