TV nostalgia: Daniel Coutu, imitator of Guy Jodoin and lover of Jessica Barker

For a young Daniel Coutu, the humor and intelligence of Resourceful had no equal. And for fun, why not do it also with the family of The little life? Fond of TV, the magician has already spent many hours laughing in front of the small screen…

Daniel, what children’s programs have marked you?

I have a particularly vivid memory of “triping solid” on the hustlers. It was funny and smart. I watched each of the episodes more than once (thanks, VHS tapes) and knew the refrain by heart!

What childhood TV memories are among your fondest?

The little life

It’s not a children’s show, but I remember laughing out loud as we sat on the sofa as a family, listening The little life. My mother has a particularly contagious laugh and we laughed… laughed. In the same vein, Fripe and Puglia was so funny! It’s good to laugh with the family.

Did you watch a lot of TV when you were very young?

I watched too much TV when I was younger! No wonder I design shows today.

Is there a character who influenced you?

Tele-Pirate.

The unbridled humor of Tele-Pirate and Studio particularly influenced my love of sketch shows. The artist-painter who speaks in onomatopoeia, played by Guy Jodoin, made me scream with laughter. I still imitate him today. I never had the chance to work with Guy Jodoin, but it is clear that if this opportunity arises, I will ask him for an excerpt. Then I can die.

Is there still a song from a show that sticks in your mind?

I would be tempted to say that of Resourceful, but I would be redundant. So I will say… the hustlers!

Is there a character you would have liked to play for children?

I think I would have liked to be Tom [sous les traits de Lorànt Deutsch] in the intrepid. Especially because I was secretly in love with Julie! “Oh my God!”. But that’s not original, because I’ve heard that Jessica Barker has several nostalgic 30-something suitors. She should found an association to monetize this capital of love; she would become super rich (smile).

What universe would you like the children to discover?

That of magic family, but I have a conflict of interest… I’m so proud of this show. I had so much fun designing it with my author friend, Isabelle Pruneau-Brunet. The actors and actresses with whom I have the pleasure of performing are so funny. It’s great happiness!

What do you think of today’s youth TV?

Again, I can hardly be a judge and a stakeholder, but I find it magnificent. We have to find a way for it to reach even more children on the new platforms. Youth TV is so important from a cultural point of view… In fact, in every way!

  • In addition to being shown on Tou.tv, the 13 episodes of the second season of magic family are broadcast by ICI Télé on Saturdays at 9 a.m. The episodes of the third season can be viewed thanks to the Extra of All V.
