“Turning our lives away”, Rau_Ze | The duty

Traces of jazz training at the Cégep de Saint-Laurent can be heard everywhere on the first album of the duo formed by Rose Perron and her accomplice Félix Paul, who signs the majority of the texts and music here. Rau_Ze’s song still seeks to prove itself worthy of the neo-R&B label that has been attached to it since its victorious journey during the 26e edition of Francouvertes: on To come back, at the very end of the album, the crucial gospel influence finally rears its head, even with conviction. Previously? Pop, with a hint of soul, R&B, yes, but above all pop songs, delivered with taste, but without the extra soul necessary to take it elsewhere. Perron has a nice bit of pinched voice more at ease on the more intimate songs, the best of this project: Summerset in the opening, sunny soul-pop, No need and its rhythm falling right between hip-hop and R&B, the sinuous melody of Do not talk to me and the dapper Gone already. In concert on April 12 at the Foufounes Électriques, the next day at the Pantoum de Québec.
