Mayors from Montreal’s northern suburbs are taking advantage of the upcoming by-election in Terrebonne to urge the Legault government to subsidize a public transit service that their fellow citizens, they say, greatly need. But why would residents of other regions, who have no public transit service at all, generally because population density and needs do not justify it, fund Terrebonne’s? […] Why should they be the turkeys of the farce at the service of the residents of the northern suburbs of Montreal? The said mayors base their request on the significant increase in their population. This is excellent news! This densification should help them finance their own public transit service. The Quebec government must prioritize the financing and accessibility of health care throughout Quebec as well as education services, and reduce its budget deficit, which undermines the sustainability of social services in Quebec.
