Merzlikins makes 21 saves to shut out the Blues
Elvis Merzlikins made 21 saves to guide the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
It was a 10e career shutout for Merzlikins and a first since January 13, 2022, against the Carolina Hurricanes, which ended a streak of 94 games without a shutout.
Dmitri Voronkov broke the deadlock in the third period to score the only goal of the evening and stop the Blues’ winning streak to five.
Voronkov fired a precise one-timer after accepting a pass from Zach Werenski during a penalty kill at 4:11 of the third period. The Russian striker obtained a third point in two clashes against the Blues.
Jordan Binnington also stopped 21 pucks in front of the Blues cage, who lost their two duels against the Blue Jackets this season. The Columbus team swept the seasonal series between the two teams for the first time since 2014-15.
The Blue Jackets were without rookie forward Adam Fantilli, who left Sunday’s game against the Seattle Kraken after being cut in the leg by a skate.
