Recently acquired from the Colorado Avalanche, defenseman Bowen Byram scored twice in the Buffalo Sabers’ 7-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

This win, combined with the Red Wings’ current six-game losing streak, allows the Sabers to keep their playoff hopes alive. The winning team began the day five points behind the Michigan club and in second and last place among the teams drafted in the East.

Zach Benson had a goal and two assists in the victory. Alex Tuch, JJ Peterka, Connor Clifton and Jeff Skinner also hit the target.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen blocked 21 pucks and improved his personal record to 9-3-1 in his last 13 games. He only gave up 28 goals during this stretch.

Morgan Frost had a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who are .500 in their last eight games.

Joel Farabee scored the other goal for the winners.

Cam York and Travis Konecny ​​each provided two assists, while Samuel Ersson made 27 saves.

For the Sharks, Filip Zadina scored twice on the power play and Magnus Chrona blocked 39 shots.

The Flyers will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.

Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves to sign a second straight shutout and the New York Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0 on Tuesday after a duel between the two best teams in the Metropolitan Division.

Shesterkin posted a 26-save shutout Saturday against the St. Louis Blues. He has three shutouts this season.

Adam Fox hit the target late in the first period and the Rangers maintained this one-goal lead, even if the Hurricanes pulled their goalie for two minutes in favor of a sixth skater late in the game.

Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 23 pucks in front of the Hurricanes cage, who nevertheless suffered a first defeat in four games. The Rangers have won two of three games against the Hurricanes this season and have a six-point lead atop the section.

The Hurricanes were shut out for the second time this season and first since October 24, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last week, Jake Guentzel made his debut with the Hurricanes. He fired a shot on target in just over 15 minutes of play. He was playing his first match since February 14.

Drake Batherson gives Senators victory in overtime

Michael Bunting scored for the Penguins, who lost a fourth straight game.

The team has won only once in eight meetings.

It was a first NHL game for 20-year-old Albertan Zack Ostapchuk, a second-round pick of the Senators three years ago.

Kirill Kaprizov scores twice for the Wild, who defeat the Coyotes

Kirill Kaprizov scored two goals and added an assist, helping the Minnesota Wild post their fourth victory in five games, this time 4-1 against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday.

Kaprizov put the puck into an empty net from his own zone with 2:32 remaining, sealing the outcome of the game. The Coyotes pulled goaltender Karel Vejmelka with three minutes remaining.

Marc-André Fleury stopped 21 pucks in the victory. Teammates Ryan Hartman and Marcus Foligno flashed the red light. Foligno’s net was also scored in an empty cage.

Originally from Minneapolis, Nick Bjugstad was the only scorer for the Coyotes. Vejmelka stopped 27 pucks, going 8-17-2 this season.

Barkov helped his team score four unanswered goals, starting midway through the second period.
