Husso blocks 43 shots

Ville Husso made 27 of 43 saves in the third period as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Tuesday.

Michael Rasmussen, Jonatan Berggren, Adam Erne and David Perron hit the target for the Red Wings.

The Detroit team, which has missed the playoffs in its last six campaigns, climbed to third place in the Atlantic Division, tied with the Lightning.

Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point provided the response for the Lightning and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 22 shots.

After Stamkos extended his one-point streak to 11 thanks to his net, Erne restored the Red Wings’ two-goal lead with an empty-net goal.

Point scored another goal with an extra skater at 17:34, before Perron scored another goal into an empty net in the final minute.

Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde faced the Lightning for the first time after being an assistant coach with them from 2018 to 2022. He notably won the Stanley Cup with the Florida squad in 2020 and 2021.

Devils blank Blackhawks

Defenseman Dougie Hamilton had a goal and two assists, Vitek Vanecek made 24 saves for his second shutout of the season and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 on Tuesday.

Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt also scored as Jack Hughes had two assists for the Devils, who have the NHL’s best record (21-4-1) despite two losses in their first two games.

The Devils have allowed a goal or less nine times, more than all of last season.

Arvid Soderblom stopped 26 shots for the Blackhawks, who are 1-9-1 in their last 11 games. They were also shut out 3-0 by the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Arvidsson scores twice and Kings thrash Senators

Viktor Arvidsson scored twice as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Ottawa Senators 5-2 on Tuesday.

Matt Roy, Mikey Anderson and Kevin Fiala also hit the mark for the Kings. Anze Kopitar recorded three assists for the Kings (14-10-4), who began a six-game road trip.

Pheonix Copley made 31 saves in his first start for the Kings.

The Senators (10-14-1) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end.

Drake Batherson and Thomas Chabot each rattled the powerplay ropes for the Senators.

Cam Talbot was kicked out of the game midway through the second period after giving up five goals on 14 shots. Anton Forsberg stopped all 13 shots he faced in relief.

Crosby scores a brace against the Blue Jackets

Sidney Crosby falls to the ice as he manages to beat the Blue Jackets goaltender.

Sidney Crosby scored twice, Bryan Rust scored for the second straight game and the Pittsburgh Penguins prevailed 4-1 at the expense of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Crosby took his goalscoring tally to 15 by beating Elvis Merzlikins twice in the middle period. The Penguins have gone undefeated against Team Ohio in the Blue Jackets’ last 12 visits to PPG Paints Arena.

Teddy Blueger added a late goal against fellow Latvian Merzlikins, who got the upper hand earlier in the game on a penalty kick.

Tristan Jarry allowed a goal to Johnny Gaudreau a minute into the game, but quickly recovered. Jarry finished with 38 saves to improve to 5-0 against the Blue Jackets.

Merzlikins stopped 30 shots, but saw his career record drop to 0-5 against the Penguins.

Connor scores twice and the Jets defeat the Panthers

Kyle Connor scored twice and added an assist as the Jets spoil Paul Maurice’s return to Winnipeg with a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.

Mark Scheifele scored two power-play goals and Adam Lowry scored the Jets’ fifth goal in an empty net. Pierre-Luc Dubois had three assists.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 38 of 40 shots for the Jets (16-7-1).

Zac Dalpe and Carter Verhaeghe replied for the Panthers (12-10-4).

Spencer Knight made 12 saves on 15 shots before being replaced by Sergei Bobrovsky early in the second period. Bobrovsky blocked 16 of the 17 shots he faced.

The Jets are now 9-3-0 at home this season.

Tuesday’s game marked Maurice’s return to Winnipeg, where he spent nearly nine seasons managing the Jets before suddenly leaving them midway through last campaign. The 55-year-old became the Panthers head coach in June.

Maple Leafs blank Stars 4-0

Matt Murray made a season-best 44 saves, Mitch Marner extended his one-point streak to 20 games with an early assist and the Maple Leafs shut out the Dallas Stars 4-0 on Tuesday .

John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Rasmus Sandin and Alexander Kerfoot shone the red light for the Maple Leafs, who are 9-0-3 in their last 12 games.

The Stars went 0-for-7 on the power play as the Maple Leafs earned their first shutout of the season. The Texas club notably missed a four-minute power play and a 5 against 3 of 1: 38.

The Stars were shut out for the first time this season. Jake Oettinger stopped 25 shots.

It was the first game in NHL history featuring two players with a point streak of at least 18 games. Jason Robertson of the Stars saw his streak end at 18, a club record. Robertson leads the NHL with 23 goals.

Marner got an assist when his wrist shot was saved, but Tavares used the comeback at 4:51 to score the first of two Maple Leafs goals in the first period.
