Connor McDavid scored a goal and added four assists and the Edmonton Oilers won their sixth straight game by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 on Tuesday.
McDavid reached the 900 career point plateau at his 602e game in the National Hockey League. He became the sixth-fastest player to total 900 points after Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy and Peter Stastny.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice and added an assist for the Oilers, who are the only team to win six straight games twice this season. Zach Hyman also finished the game with three points, hitting the target once.
Leon Draisaitl was the other Oilers scorer. Stuart Skinner stopped 35 pucks.
Travis Konecny and Marc Staal responded for the Flyers, who have lost three games in a row and five of their last six. Carter Hart stopped 31 of the 36 shots he faced.

Andrei Svechnikov scores 2 goals, Hurricanes defeat Rangers 6-1
Andrei Svechnikov scored twice and Pyotr Kochetkov made 28 saves in a 6-1 victory for the Carolina Hurricanes over the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
Kochetkov has only suffered one defeat in regulation time in his last nine outings. Svechnikov extended his streak with at least one point to five games. He hit the target six times during this one.
Former Rangers Brady Skjei had three assists for the Hurricanes, who won their fourth straight game and improved their record to 7-1-3 in their last 11 meetings. Jack Drury, Jordan Martinook, Jalen Chatfield and Michael Bunting were the other scorers.
Chris Kreider scored the Rangers’ only goal.
Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho assisted on a Svechnikov goal and had at least a point in a fifth straight game. He has 10 assists and 12 points in his last four outings.
Igor Shesterkin gave up six times on 27 shots. This defeat ended his streak of five victories.

James van Riemsdyk helps Bruins to 4-1 win over Blue Jackets
James van Riemsdyk scored on the power play and had two assists to help the Boston Bruins defeat the Blue Jackets 4-1 on Tuesday night in Columbus.
The Bruins extended their winning streak to four games.
Kevin Shattenkirk, Danton Heinen and Trent Frederic also scored for the Bruins, while Linus Ullmark blocked 25 shots.
Kent Johnson scored for the Blue Jackets and Spencer Martin stopped 23 shots.
After a scoreless first period in which the Blue Jackets dominated 12-5 in shots, the Bruins took control of the game by scoring two goals in the second period. They added two additional goals in the last period.
Shattenkirk scored his third goal in two games at 2:12 of the second period. The Blue Jackets tied the game 1:52 later, on Johnson’s goal.
Dmitri Voronkov had an assist on the goal to bring his points total this season to 20, fifth among league rookies.
Van Riemsdyk scored to make it 2-1 at 13:07 of the game.

Capitals beat Penguins 4-3, Ovechkin and Crosby score
Alexander Ovechkin scored on the power play and the Washington Capitals beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby battled for 67e times in the regular season. Crosby had a goal and an assist, but his team was unable to complete its comeback, as the Capitals quickly took a 4-0 lead in the game.
It was the 10e time both stars found the back of the net in the same game, but the first time since November 7, 2018.
Martin Fehervary, Tom Wilson and Beck Malenstyn also scored for the Capitals, who had lost four straight games. Darcy Kuemper made 33 saves.
Ovechkin scored his eighth goal of the campaign and his 830e career goal. He is 65 goals away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 894.
The winger also passed Quebec defenseman Raymond Bourque for seventh in the NHL for most career points with the same team.
Crosby scored his 21e goal of the season, on the power play in the second period. Crosby passed Joe Thornton at 12e rank in the history of the best scorers in the league, with 1,540 career points.

Jonathan Huberdeau scores in Flames’ 3-1 win over Wild
Andrew Mangiapane and Jonathan Huberdeau both scored in the first period for the Calgary Flames, who defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-1 on Tuesday.
Blake Coleman scored the Flames’ other goal in an empty net and Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves.
Mangiapane scored his seventh goal of the campaign at 11:40 of the first period. He redirected a shot from Rasmus Andersson to beat Marc-André Fleury. The Quebec goalie made 30 saves and is only one victory away from joining Patrick Roy in second place in National Hockey League history with 551.
Huberdeau made it 2-0 with 23.1 seconds left in the first. It was his first goal since November 20 and only his second point in 14 games.
Pat Maroon was the only scorer for the Wild, who had to make do without their leading scorer Kirill Kaprizov. Goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson as well as attackers Vinni Lettieri and Marcus Foligno were also absent.
The Wild have lost their last three games.

Jets extend winning streak, beat Lightning 4-2
Nikolaj Ehlers scored the game-winning goal late in the third period to help the Winnipeg Jets defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Tuesday.
The Jets thus extended their series of matches with at least one point to nine. This streak (7-0-2) ties a team record set in December 2005 by the Atlanta Thrashers.
Neal Pionk, Alex Iafallo and Morgan Barron, in an empty net, also scored in the victory. Barron also had an assist, while Vladislav Namestnikov had three.
Connor Hellebuyck stopped 33 pucks for the Jets, with a record of 18-6-3 in 27 games.
Nikita Kucherov scored a goal and added an assist for the Lightning. Steven Stamkos also hit the target. Andrei Vasilevskiy blocked 23 shots in the loss.
The Lightning led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play, but the Jets took a 2-1 lead after the second period.
Kucherov scored with 37 seconds left in regulation, extending his streak of games with at least one goal to four.

Predators blank Blackhawks 3-0, Saros makes 21 saves
Gustav Nyquist and Ryan O’Reilly both finished the game with a goal and an assist, Juuse Saros stopped 21 shots for the shutout, and the Nashville Predators beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Luke Evangelista also scored for the Predators, who won all three of their games against the Blackhawks this season.
Arvid Soderblom stopped 33 pucks for the Blackhawks, who have lost five of their last six games.
Saros’ shutout was his second of the season and his 22e in career.
Nyquist opened the scoring on the power play, 5:16 into the first period. The forward scored his fourth goal in as many games, using a wrist shot that beat Soderblom over the glove.
O’Reilly doubled his team’s lead with 4:37 left in regulation, while the Predators took advantage of a five-on-three power play.
Evangelista completed the scoring with an empty-net goal in the last minute of play.

MacKinnon decides in overtime for the Avalanche, who defeat the Islanders 5-4
Nathan MacKinnon scored 32 seconds into overtime and the Colorado Avalanche came from behind to defeat the New York Islanders 5-4 on Tuesday.
MacKinnon scored the winning goal with a slap shot to score his 20e net of the countryside. MacKinnon also had two assists and extended his streak to 20 straight games with at least one point at home, which is a team record.
Valeri Nichushkin scored a double. Jonathan Drouin scored a goal and added an assist, and Devon Toews lit the red light against his former team. Cal Makar was complicit in three goals and Alexandar Georgiev stopped 18 pucks.
Brock Nelson totaled two points, including a goal, then Ilya Sorokin made 23 saves in relief of Semyon Varlamov for the Islanders. Pierre Engvall, Alexander Romanov and Simon Holmstrom were the other scorers in the loss.
Varlamov was one of two Islanders players to suffer an injury. He left the game at 14:52 of the first period. He rejected 11 of the 12 shots aimed at him. Defender Robert Bortuzzo also left the match.
