Jesperi Kotkaniemi had two goals and an assist on Tuesday to help the Carolina Hurricanes win 5-3 over the Winnipeg Jets.
Kotkaniemi completed his double in an empty net, with four seconds on the clock.
Jack Drury, Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei were the other scorers for the Hurricanes, who had lost their last two games.
Frederik Andersen stopped 21 shots.
Carolina won hours after announcing that star player Andrei Svechnikov will miss the rest of the season. He needs knee surgery, which will be done on Thursday.
Dylan DeMelo, Nikolaj Ehlers and Nino Niederreiter returned fire for the Jets, while David Rittich made 20 saves.
The Jets host Boston on Thursday. The Hurricanes will play in Toronto the next day.

Barbashev scores twice in Golden Knights win over Flyers
Ivan Barbashev had two goals on Tuesday to help the Vegas Golden Knights win 5-3 over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Barbashev put the finishing touch in an empty net at 18:28 in the third period.
Jonathan Marchessault scored his 22e net of the season, on the power play.
Pavel Dorofeyev and Teddy Blueger also scored for the Knights, who deserved a fourth straight victory.
Jonathan Quick made 27 saves, being beaten by Nick Seeler, Morgan Frost and Travis Sanheim.
Vegas is 21-7-5 on the road this season.
The Golden Knights will host the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
Felix Sandstrom stopped 28 pucks.
The Flyers were entering a seven-game home stint. It will end with a visit from the Montreal Canadiens on March 28.

Brandon Hagel excels in Lightning win
Brandon Hagel had a goal and three points on Tuesday as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-1.
Anthony Cirelli, Alex Killorn and Nikita Kucherov had the other Lightning goals.
Tampa Bay will find those same Devils Thursday night, again in Newark.
The Lightning will then host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 22 saves; he only flinched against Damon Severson, in the sixth minute of the game.
The Devils’ Ryan Graves was thought to have scored, midway through the first period, but the referees disallowed the goal for obstructing the keeper.
The Lightning scored three times on seven shots in the middle period.
Vitek Vanecek blocked 25 shots in a losing cause.
The Devils were looking for a fourth straight win.
