Bo Horvat scored a goal on his home debut for the New York Islanders, helping them defeat the Seattle Kraken 4-0 on Tuesday night.

Ilya Sorokin made 31 saves to add a fifth shutout to his record this season. Samuel Bolduc, with his first NHL goal, Simon Holmstrom and Zach Parise also scored for the Islanders, who won a fourth straight game. Jean-Gabriel Pageau provided two assists.

Bolduc opened the scoring at 7:59 of the first period. His long shot from the blue line snuck through traffic and into the back of the net.

“It’s pretty special, especially to do it at home, in front of the fans,” said Bolduc. It’s an extraordinary feeling. »

The Islanders acquired Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 30. The star center then signed an eight-year, $68 million contract extension on Sunday.

Horvat, 27, made his first game for the Islanders on Monday, helping them beat the Flyers 2-1 in Philadelphia.

He scored his first goal with his new team at 5:08 of the second period on Tuesday. Mathew Barzal stole the puck from Yanni Gourde in the offensive zone and set the table for a Horvat one-timer.

For Horvat it was a 32e goal this season, a career high. This goal widened the gap to 4-0.

Martin Jones stopped 23 shots in net for the Kraken, which started a five-game road streak.

Meier scored the game-winning goal on a pass from star defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Kristopher Letang scored 3:36 into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.

The Avalanche controlled much of the game, before Bryan Rust tied the game with 3:38 left in regulation. The Penguins spent a penalty in overtime just before winning on a shot from the face-off circle off Letang’s stick.

Letang had almost given the victory to his team a little earlier in overtime, when it had pushed the puck and part of it had crossed the goal line. However, Avalanche goalie Pavel Francouz managed to fend off the puck in time to prevent the goal.

Francouz unfortunately could not achieve the feat a few minutes later, when Letang scored his fifth goal of the season. Francouz finished the game with 36 saves.

For the Penguins, Casey DeSmith stopped 41 shots and kept his team in the game for the first two periods.

Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon scored his 14e goal of the season. This is the second loss in nine games for the Avalanche.

The visitors took the first eight shots of the game and 13 of the first 15, as the Penguins got off to another slow start.

Head coach Mike Sullivan’s team finally woke up in the third period, bombarding Francouz with shots. Rust tied the game late in the period. A throw-in from Evgeni Malkin from behind the net deflected off his skate and then Francouz’s pad, before penetrating the goal.
