Alexander Ovechkin knocked Jaromir Jagr out of third all-time goal scoring with a 767and goal on Tuesday, helping the Washington Capitals win 4-3 over the New York Islanders.
Ovechkin scored a 37and goal this season late in the third period, becoming the most productive European goalscorer in history.
He hit the mark with a quick shot straight after a faceoff won by the Capitals, to the left of Semyon Varlamov.
Anders Lee leveled the score with 1:59 on the clock, but Anthony Mantha netted the key shootout goal.
After his goal, Ovechkin was joined on the ice by his teammates as he received a standing ovation from the crowd.
The 36-year-old Russian is 35 goals away from dislodging Gordie Howe in second place. Wayne Gretzky reigns with 894 successes.
Ovechkin has 11 seasons of 40 or more goals.
Washington is 5-0-1 in six games. Mantha and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby scored the other regular-time goals for the Capitals.
Vitek Vanecek made 29 saves, also being beaten by Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri. Varlamov also blocked 29 shots.
The Caps’ next game is Thursday night in Columbus.

Maple Leafs blank Stars 4-0
Erik Kallgren made 35 saves in his first NHL start and the Toronto Maple Leafs shut out the Dallas Stars 4-0 on Tuesday.
Rasmus Sandin, Ondrej Kase, Ilya Mikheyev and John Tavares scored for the Maple Leafs. Tavares also earned an assist.
Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly had two assists.
Jake Oettinger stopped 36 shots for the Stars (32-23-3).
Kallgren started the game after starting goaltender Jack Campbell was sidelined with a rib injury. Campbell and his backup, Petr Mrazek, have struggled lately as Maple Leafs goaltenders have the NHL’s worst five-on-five save percentage since 1er January.
The Maple Leafs had to do without star center Auston Matthews after he received a two-game suspension without pay for serving a cross-check to Buffalo Sabers defenseman Rasmus Dahlin on Sunday.
It was also the first game in the NHL between Nick Robertson of the Leafs and his big brother, Jason, who leads the Stars with 30 goals this season.

Rangers beat Ducks in overtime
Adam Fox flashed the red light 55 seconds into overtime to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.
Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Jonny Brodzinski also rocked the ropes for the Rangers, who have won five of their last seven games.
Artemi Panarin aided in three Rangers goals while Fox had two assists. Gerard Gallant’s squad have improved to 12-2-1 in their last 15 home games.
Alexandrar Georgiev made 20 saves in the win.
Maxime Comtois, Cam Fowler and Derek Grant hit the mark for the Ducks, who saw their losing streak extend to five.
Adam Henrique had two assists and John Gibson blocked 34 shots.

The Predators have the upper hand over the Penguins
Juuse Saros made 35 saves en route to a 4-1 Nashville Predators victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.
Mattias Ekholm, Tanner Jeannot, Eeli Tolvanen and Yakov Trenin have found the back of the net for the Predators, who have won five of their last six meetings. Roman Josi and Colton Sissons each had two assists.
Jake Guentzel was the Penguins’ lone scorer and Casey DeSmith stopped 21 shots. Sidney Crosby was instrumental in Guentzel’s goal and extended his one-point streak to 10.
Mike Sullivan’s troupe had won their last two outings before facing the Predaotrs.

Jets win 7-3 over Golden Knights
Kyle Connor extended his one-goal streak to five and propelled the Winnipeg Jets to a 7-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.
Connor also picked up two assists to go along with his 38and countryside fillet.
Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Logan Stanley and Josh Morrissey all had a goal and an assist. Nikolaj Ehlers and Adam Lowry also scored for the Jets.
Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves for the Jets (28-23-10), who went 6-2-1 in their last nine games.
Nicolas Roy, Alex Pietrangelo and Michael Amadio scored for the Golden Knights (32-26-4), who have lost their last five games.
Former Jets goaltender Laurent Brossoit had a rough night and was replaced by Logan Thompson midway through the second period after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Thompson blocked seven of 10 shots in relief.

Bruins win in overtime against Blackhawks
Matt Grzelcyk scored at 1:40 in overtime and the Boston Bruins posted their third straight win on Tuesday, 2-1 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Grzelcyk ended the debate with a wrist shot from the left circle, after receiving a pass from Taylor Hall.
The Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron scored early in the third period, but Brandon Hagel replied less than six minutes later.
Linus Ullmark made 19 saves for the Bruins, who are 5-0-1 in six games.
Boston was beginning a four-game road trip that will end in Montreal on Monday.
Marc-André Fleury was faced with 48 shots.
Chicago hasn’t won two games in a row since a four-game winning streak Jan. 8-15.

Oilers get win over Red Wings
Warren Foegele broke the tie 5-5 at 14:35 in the third period on Tuesday, guiding the Edmonton Oilers to a 7-5 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Foegele scored his eighth goal of the season rounding the net.
Evander Kane completed in an empty net, getting his second goal of the game.
Kailer Yamamoto scored on the power play for Edmonton, which deserved a third straight win.
Other game-winning goals came from Devin Shore, Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman – back-to-back, in the first period.
The Oilers will try to extend their good streak Thursday at home against Buffalo.
Marc Staal (twice), Sam Gagner, Filip Zadina and Lucas Raymond have fought back for the Red Wings, who have lost their last six games.
