Elias Lindholm

Elias Lindholm scored two power play goals in similar circumstances in his first game with the Vancouver Canucks and JT Miller added the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Lindholm, a veteran center who began his career with the Hurricanes, scored in the first period and the second period. Lindholm’s performance helped the Canucks pick up a point in the standings in a 12e match in a row.

Miller scored his 22e of the season, the only goal of the match at even strength, after four minutes of play in the third period.

Defenseman Quinn Hughes and forward Brock Boeser had two assists each. Goaltender Thatcher Demko stopped 22 pucks, including 12 in the third period.

Jordan Martinook and Sebastian Aho provided the response for the Hurricanes, who lost after collecting three consecutive victories. In his first game with the Hurricanes since January 11, Pyotr Kochetkov blocked 16 shots.

The Canucks acquired Lindholm last week in a trade with the Calgary Flames. He played five seasons with the Hurricanes who selected him in the 2013 draft.

Lindholm’s first goal came with 2:37 left in the first period, when he deflected a Hughes slap shot. He added his 11e of the season in the second period by deflecting another offering from Hughes, the leader among NHL defensemen with 64 points.

Martinook’s goal, scored during a power play, gave the Hurricanes the lead in the first period.

Aho’s goal came 62 seconds after Lindholm’s second, also on the power play.

Steel scored the game-winning goal with 10:56 left in the second period, and just over three minutes after Thompson’s tying goal.
