The judge in Donald Trump’s criminal trial for concealed payments postponed the announcement of his sentence, scheduled in nine days, to September 18, on Tuesday, July 2. The announcement comes a day after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that he would extend his presidential immunity.

“The sentencing date of July 11 is therefore annulled”And “adjourned until September 18 if still necessary”or about six weeks before the date of the American presidential election, November 5, 2024, the New York magistrate wrote.

In late May, Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of false accounting related to the concealed payment of $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016, becoming the first former president of the United States to be found criminally guilty by a jury. He theoretically faces a maximum of four years in prison. But the judge can also choose to impose an alternative sentence to prison, such as a suspended sentence.
