During the presentation of the bill on immigration to the National Assembly, Monday December 11, Sébastien Chenu, National Rally (RN) deputy from the North, attacked Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior. This promised that 100% of the obligations to leave French territory (OQTF) were applied, when the RN deputy suggests that only 7% are applied. The promise of 100% OQTF executed was made by Emmanuel Macron during an interview for Current values in November 2019. This promise was then taken up by the Minister of the Interior.
A low rate which can be explained
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, in the first half of 2022, around 60,000 OQTFs were pronounced and 4,500 executed. “Or an execution rate of around 7% as Sébastien Chenu says”, explains Luc Brisson, journalist from the “True or false” unit of Franceinfo, present on the set of 19/20 info. Over the last ten years, the executed OQTFs are low compared to the pronounced OQTFs.
According to the journalist, this rate is low for several reasons. “They can be contested and canceled”, he indicates. From a human point of view, it is impossible to place tens of thousands of people in administrative detention centers. Finally, for an OQTF to be executed, the country of return must agree to take back the expelled person.
