“Sometimes all it takes is a simple editing software, like Photoshop, and you can make an image say everything and its opposite.“, indicates Julie Calderon, journalist with the “true or false” unit. Thus, several false images have circulated on the networks, such as a tweet which shows the Israeli actress Gal Gadot holding a sign on which is written: “Zionism is the new Nazism.” The photo does not appear retouched. However, the original version was posted by the actress in 2018, on Holocaust Remembrance Day. Here, the photomontage implies that the Israeli actress is criticizing the Jewish state.
Photo of Israeli soldier sparks controversy
Another photo shows an Israeli soldier sitting in an armchair in front of the ruins of a house. In the accompanying tweet it says “we started speaking in Arabic. The new owners in Gaza”. When we look at the elements of this photo, we notice a table with pastries and a cup of coffee, as well as a house with a Star of David. In the original version, there is no table or Star of David. The original photo aroused the anger of many Internet users on Arab networks.
