Live, CNN journalists in Israel protected themselves from rocket fire. A YouTuber accused them of staging themselves.

CNN is accused of staging a rocket attack during a live broadcast in Israel. In the footage, journalist Clarissa Ward and her team protect themselves from a strike by throwing themselves to the ground. Several explosions that seem close to the journalists are heard. After this live broadcast, an American YouTuber, known for his pro-Trump positions, published the sequence on Twitter and on his channel, adding a voice-over giving instructions to journalists.

Arguments that don’t hold up

The YouTuber quickly recognized that the voice had been added later and that it was a parody. The doctored sequence is, however, widely reported on social networks. The YouTuber still persists by saying that the sequence is staged. According to him, the journalist is not wearing a helmet and is wearing makeup. Additionally, the smoke is located far from the film crew.

However, these arguments do not hold water. Release thus geolocated the CNN sequence. The journalist and her team were 3.5 km from the border with the Gaza Strip, in an area where Hamas attackers passed on October 7. Strikes were indeed fired from the Gaza Strip that same day, the day the sequence was filmed.
