The France Télévisions teams investigated the veracity of Valérie Pécresse’s comments on several subjects such as the obligations to leave the territory or the number of vacant jobs in France.

Valérie Pécresse is officially the LR candidate for the next presidential election in 2022. She launched her campaign by stating in particular that when Nicolas Sarkozy was in power, “44% of the obligations to leave the territory were fulfilled against only 12% today”. So, according to her, “three times better than the Macron government”. On the other hand, in the 44% of obligations to leave the territory under Nicolas Sarkozy are counted all removals for the year 2012, including voluntary departures. While the figure of 12% removals in 2019 only includes forced departures. The total rises to 25% taking into account voluntary departures, a figure higher than the estimate of Valérie Pécresse.

Candidate LR also stated that there is “nearly a million jobs that are unfilled in the private sector”. On the Pôle Emploi site, there are indeed a million jobs available. On the other hand, nearly one in two offers would be a duplicate. According to figures from a study center attached to the Ministry of Labor, there were, for the third quarter of 2021, 292,800 vacant jobs, about half of which actually corresponded to unoccupied jobs. We are therefore far from the million jobs that do not find a taker announced by Valérie Pécresse.

Valérie Pécresse also assured that she was the one who had “made decide by the Academy of Sciences the existence of global warming and its human origin at a time when the government to which I belonged was a little divided on these questions”. Minister of Research in 2010, she asked the Academy of Sciences to comment on the causes of global warming. The latter had assured that it is “unquestionably due to human activity”. Candidate LR therefore initiated this report, but the human origin of global warming had already been widely established by scientists from the IPCC, Jacques Chirac had mentioned in 2002.
