Four out of ten prisoners would never go behind bars, according to a study released by the Institute for Justice. True or Fake? We answer you.
As relayed THE Figaro, four out of ten prisoners would never go behind bars. The daily echoes a study by the Institute for Justice, a conservative think tank. Published in February, it establishes that prisoners actually serve only 62% of their prison sentence and that 42% of convicts never set foot in prison. However, do these figures reflect reality? Contacted, the Ministry of Justice considers that they are consistent.
Possible sentencing adjustments
The situation could be explained by the French system of adjustment of sentences. Indeed, the law provides for an adjustment in principle for sentences of less than one year. The detainee can then be monitored at home using an electronic bracelet, be placed outside, or be on semi-freedom.
