Aurélien Véron, LR adviser to the town hall of Paris, recently posted inaccurate videos to protest against the strike of garbage collectors, rats or cyclists in Paris. Does the chosen one take liberties to serve his words?

At the municipal council of Paris, an elected LR is opposed frontally to the mayor of the capital. Aurélien Véron, municipal councilor, is very upset against the garbage collectors’ strike, the rats and certain cyclists in Paris. And to make himself heard, he also sometimes arranges with the facts, as when he publishes a video to denounce the proliferation of rodents in the capital. And when a journalist from Télérama pointed out to him that it was not a rat in Paris but a nutria in Rome (Italy), Aurélien Véron lost his temper.

“I am not a journalist, I am a politician”

The day after a demonstration against the pension reform, a few weeks ago, he published a video of a car destroyed by demonstrators. Video which actually dated from 2020, and therefore had nothing to do with the current protests.

Franceinfo met with the elected municipal official to question him about his practices. “The facts exist. The nutria, we are on a metaphorical image, on something more schoolboy, I admit it. On the car that burned, we are not on the right date, basically it does not change much. I am not a journalist, I am a politician”, argues Aurélien Véron. According to him, a politician could therefore take liberties with the facts to get his message across.

However, he did not always hold this type of speech. In 2021, he published a robbery video in Paris. Someone then pointed out to him that the video was old. For the sake of honesty, Aurélien Véron had deleted the video, because inaccurate. Today, he no longer deletes his inaccurate tweets. Because for him the cause is just, and the buzz necessary.
