(Vancouver) Vancouver police said 100 officers were dispatched around a restaurant where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was dining Tuesday evening, while the establishment was surrounded by demonstrators demanding a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas.
Police say a man was arrested for assaulting a police officer and another for obstructing police work.
In videos posted on social media, protesters wave Palestinian flags, shout slogans and boo Mr. Trudeau outside the restaurant in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Sergeant Steve Addison of the Vancouver police said Wednesday that around 100 officers had been dispatched to the scene to control the demonstrators so that the Prime Minister could safely leave the restaurant, a little before 10 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Sergeant Addison, a 27-year-old man from Coquitlam, British Columbia, was arrested after a female police officer who was trying to disperse the crowd was punched in the face. The police officer was taken to hospital, according to Mr. Addison.
In videos released earlier Tuesday evening, Mr. Trudeau is seen heckled by demonstrators inside a restaurant located in another neighborhood of Vancouver.
