Mr. Trudeau confirmed this news on his Twitter account on Monday morning.
“I tested positive for COVID-19. I will follow public health guidelines and self-isolate. I’m fine, and that’s thanks to my vaccines. If you haven’t already, get your shots or booster shots. Let’s protect our healthcare system and protect each other,” he wrote.
This is the second time the prime minister has been infected with the virus in the past six months.
Mr. Trudeau participated last week in the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. Before heading to California, Mr. Trudeau visited the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was accompanied by United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Secretary of National Defense Anita Anand.
Mr. Trudeau received this positive test as the House of Commons begins the last stretch of the parliamentary session before adjournment, scheduled for June 23.
