A demonstration by bulk carriers who are members of the National Association of Artisan Truckers (ANCAI) is to take place in several regions of Quebec on Monday.
These truckers claim that the transport rates granted by the Quebec government are based on an exceeded fuel price. The Association claims that its members lost $0.60 per liter of fuel during the month of March and that every hour worked is a loss.
This Monday, the price of a liter of regular gasoline reached $2.07 at several locations in the Montreal region, while the price of diesel, the fuel used for large trucks, is even more expensive.
The Association asserts that several approaches to the Ministry of Transport to assume responsibility for the explosion in fuel prices have so far been unproductive.
The current financial context demonstrates, according to the small-scale truckers, that the current formula for adjusting the rate monthly according to the price of fuel at the loading rack is far from making up for the losses generated by the real increase in prices.
The truckers intend to visit each constituency office of the elected members of the National Assembly, as well as the service centers and territorial offices of the Ministère des Transports. They say that if their demonstration does not achieve its objectives, other actions will be considered, including interventions during political activities or during public announcements.
