Created in 1946, the Tupperware company, at the origin of the famous boxes of the same name, could disappear. The reason: the strong competition since the 1980s and the change in customer consumption.

The Tupperware brand has become a staple. “I think I still have one from my mom, they are indestructible”, says a woman about the famous hermetic boxes. Tupperware is the story of a product imagined by Mr Tupper in the United States. In the 1950s, plastic utensils revolutionized the storage of fresh produce in kitchens. The brand becomes a proper name, and everyone wants their Tupperware.

A more fashionable brand?

But in the 1980s, competition undermined the model. Tupperware is getting old and expensive. The brand is struggling to reinvent itself, and fashion is no longer plastic. “It’s plastic, it would have been glass, it would be wiser to use, I think“, says a woman. “More and more, we still pay attention to what we simply consume, even in objects“, continues another. Today threatened with bankruptcy, the name of Tupperware had yet entered the dictionary.
