Trois-Rivières | Major fire devastates electrical terminal factory

A major fire in an electrical terminal production factory in an industrial park in Trois-Rivières forces the evacuation of a large area all around.

The fire broke out between 7 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. in a building in the industrial park where a site of the company Elmec Inc. is located, confirmed a spokesperson for the City of Trois-Rivières on Tuesday.

Since then, emergency teams have been on the scene to control the flames and have evacuated people within an 800 meter perimeter around the site. No citizen residences are affected since the affected factory is located in an industrial park, but several workers had to evacuate.

It is not known at this time if any workers were at the fire site, but no injuries have been reported.

Public Health warns that the smoke emitted by the fire has no effect on air quality, but warns the population to be wary of the resulting debris and embers which can be projected “for a few kilometers “.

The authorities also specify that they do not know “the nature” of this debris.

“Depending on their composition, some of this debris can remain hot for up to 24 hours and thus represent a risk of burning or conflagration,” explains the City of Trois-Rivières in a press release.

Information should be sent to citizens on how to dispose of them safely within the next 24 hours.
