The Montreal Alouettes’ time on Trois-Rivières soil is coming to an end. The training camp ends Thursday, but the organization is already drawing a positive assessment of its second visit to Mauricie.
It was the penultimate time that the players walked on the Diablos field, Wednesday.
“We loved our experience. It’s a second home with us, Trois-Rivières. Leaders here are like an extension of our family. The facilities, we lack nothing. We have supporters every day who come to see us practice,” explained Danny Maciocia, general manager of the Alouettes.
The organization said it was satisfied with the progress of its training camp.
Wednesday morning, football players from the Pionniers high school went to join the Alouettes players on the field after attending practice. The training camp will have allowed several groups to come and see the players in action on the field.
“For us, the program is important to bring young people here to see the techniques, to see how the players train, to see the professional system,” explained coach Carol Alarie. Many young people imagine being in the place of one of the Alouettes players one day.
For this second year in Trois-Rivières, the players were much more visible. They will not only have been seen at Stade Diablos, but also at Stade Quillorama during an Eagles match. They added energy to the stands. The Eagles organization would like to repeat the experience next year if the opportunity arises.
Even though the camp is coming to an end, there is still work to be done before Saturday, the deadline to announce the Alouettes’ final roster to the Canadian Football League. About twenty players must still be removed by then.
The last preseason game will take place this Friday in Montreal against Hamilton and the season will officially begin on June 10.
