François Hollande, former President of the Republic, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Wednesday February 7, 2024. Tribute to the French victims of the attack of October 7, attacks by the Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, following the reshuffle… He answered questions from Salhia Brakhlia and Jérôme Chapuis.

Attack of October 7: what comes to the tribute “those who want to bow”

François Hollande says he understands “the anger of the families after the comments made by the leaders of LFI the day after October 7 and their inability to say that Hamas was a terrorist organization and that it was a terrorist attack.” That “come those who want to bow”believes the former president, who “I don’t really like it when there are controversies that cloud the tribute itself” which will be returned on Wednesday to the French victims of the October 7 attack in Israel.

Asked about the “memorial time” envisaged by the Élysée for the French victims in Gaza, François Hollande believes that “it can’t be the same tribute”making a difference between “victims of terrorism and victims of war”.

Attack by Houthi rebels: France must “ensure freedom of navigation”

Asked about the attacks by Houthi rebels, which target Western commercial ships, and the American and British responses, François Hollande believes that “France must work” with these countries “to ensure freedom of navigation and to make it very clear that this freedom of navigation is an important element of international law”.

“There are rules”recalls the former President of the Republic, “When we violate international law, we must bear the consequences”. For François Hollande, France is taking a risk by not reacting: “if you accept that your neighbor is attacked without reacting at some point, it is you who is attacked, not just the neighbor”.

Reshuffle: such a delay is “unprecedented”

“This is unprecedented, three weeks, this has never happened”declares François Hollande about the expected wave of appointments “instead” Wednesday of delegate ministers and secretaries of state called to join the 14 ministers in office for already a month.

“Meanwhile, the lives of the French continue. On housing, on health, on transport issues, it is necessary to have ministers. Or else we must abolish governments.”
