The Gambetta high school in Arras did not want to close its doors on Saturday October 14. Since this morning, teachers, students, parents, residents have been paying tribute to Dominique Bernard, this French teacher who was stabbed to death on Friday October 13.
They arrive at college with heavy hearts, supported by their parents. Eyes are often full of tears, faces tired. There are no classes on Saturday October 14, but the opportunity to come and talk together about what happened. Indispensable for this high school student, who had the deceased teacher as her teacher. “Even if we were in difficulty or were not diligent in French, he was really always there for us, always smiling”testifies the former student.
“He’s a great guy.”
Dominique Bernard was 57 years old. The teacher was the first to face the terrorist, Friday October 13. He died in front of the college entrance. For this professor, it is the shock of having lost a colleague and a dear friend. “I would like to thank him for everything he shared with us. He’s a great guy. It’s really a big loss for the children, for the establishment, for his daughters, his wife”, declares Philippe Lourdel, mathematics teacher. The entire educational community of the establishment is in shock. They lost one of their own, and two other staff members were seriously injured.
