Hundreds of people paid their last respects, Saturday May 25, to Arnaud Garcia, one of the two prison officers killed in the attack on their van in Eure.
In Blangy-le-Château (Calvados), near the coffin of Arnaud Garcia, relatives and many anonymous people from surrounding communities gathered on Saturday May 25. Everyone wanted to pay a final tribute to one of the two prison officers killed in the attack on their van in Eure on May 14. More than 500 people gathered, and expressed their shock. “The whole village is in mourning”observes a resident.
Three days after the national tribute paid in the presence of the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal and the Minister of Justice, a more intimate ceremony took place, alongside relatives and a few elected officials from the department. To say goodbye to Arnaud Garcia, who would soon be a father, prison officers also said a few words in front of the crowd. “We are a big family”, explains one of them. Relatives now hope that Mohamed Amra and those responsible for the attack will be arrested.
