Emmanuel Macron, Abdallah II of Jordan Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, President of Egypt call for an end to the fighting in Gaza. They write : “the war in Gaza and the catastrophic human suffering it causes must end immediately”. The three officials affirm their determination for a two-state solution and will they be heard? Israeli tanks remain positioned on the Gaza border, ready to intervene on the town of Rafah. Benjamin Netanyahu reiterates that he wants a complete victory over Hamas. “It will happen, we know there is a date”he says.
Imminent attack on Rafah?
What date ? It is unknown, but without waiting tens of thousands of Palestinians fled Rafah where they had found refuge. Some return to Khan Younes, their town of origin, but after six months of war, there is nothing left. “We might as well sleep in a tent than return home”, testifies a Palestinian man. However, Hamas and Israel are discussing, negotiating a truce in the fighting and the release of the hostages. Military and diplomatic pressure is growing. In Rafah, residents hold their breath.
