The Quebecer was just over 20 seconds behind the leader when he came out of the water, but managed to get back into the lead pack on a bike, on a flat and fast circuit. He stopped the clock at 51 min 7 s at the end of the 5 kilometer run.

His compatriots Brock Hoel and Martin Sobey placed 23e and 33e.

Brazilian Manoel Messias won the event in 50 min 14 s with a lead of 4 seconds over Spaniard Mario Mola and 8 seconds over American Matthew McElroy. Mola attempted a late comeback to claim victory in front of his supporters, but Messias resisted.

Last week, Charles Paquet had taken the 38e rank of the World Cup in Bergen, Norway.

He will be at the Karlovy Vary World Cup next week, in the Czech Republic.
