[RECTIFICATIF. Nous rapportions plus tôt que 24 personnes étaient concernées par cette demande de procès dans l’affaire des assistants parlementaires du FN. En réalité, 27 personnes le sont. Nous présentons nos excuses à nos lecteurs.]

New legal troubles for the RN. The Paris prosecutor’s office has requested a trial against the National Rally and 27 people linked to the partyincluding Marine Le Pen and her father Jean-Marie, suspected of having participated in a system of embezzlement of European public funds between 2004 and 2016, he announced on Friday September 22.

The prosecution requests that the leader of the RN (formerly National Front) be tried by the criminal court for embezzlement of public funds and complicity. He also demanded a trial for the mayor of Perpignan Louis Aliot and the former number 2 of the party Bruno Gollnisch. In this case, the far-right party set up a generalized system to pay its permanent staff with European funds, by making them employed as assistants to its MEPs, but without their work having any link with the activities of the European Parliament. .

On Thursday, the RN and Marine Le Pen announced that they had agreed to pay nearly 330,000 euros to the European Parliament for the undue employment of two assistants. The objective of the far-right party is to avoid a “forced execution” of this reimbursement. Marine Le Pen is suspected of having employed her chief of staff in the party Catherine Griset and her bodyguard Thierry Légier with European funds for the benefit of the FN (now RN). The former presidential candidate reaffirms “not having committed any offense or irregularity in the employment of his two parliamentary assistants”according to his lawyer.
