Trial of Dominico Scarfo | The killers had been watching Rocco Sollecito for two weeks

Two weeks before killing mafioso Rocco Sollecito in May 2016 in Laval, the killers began monitoring his whereabouts and hatched various plans, before settling on a gunman hidden in a bus shelter near the victim’s condo.

This is what the individual who killed Sollecito, and who three years later became a civil undercover agent (ACI) for the police, told the trial of Dominico Scarfo on Monday.

Scarfo has been facing a jury trial for several weeks for conspiring and killing Rocco Sollecito and another influential Montreal mob player, Lorenzo Giordano, also in 2016.

According to the Pursuit theory, Scarfo is the one who shot Giordano whereas in Sollecito’s case he would have driven a car in front of the mafioso’s car, and would have made an obligatory stop of a few seconds, to allow the shooter to jump out of the way. a bus shelter and shoot point-blank at the Mafia lieutenant who was alone in his SUV.

But three years after the murders, the man who shot Rocco Sollecito – and whose identity cannot be revealed – has started collaborating with the police.

He reconnected with Scarfo in 2019, discussed the murders with him again, and recorded it without his knowledge.

The jury listened to these recordings a few weeks ago and the former hitman has been testifying for several days on them and on his relations with his accomplices in 2016 and 2019.

As a construction worker or a postman

Cross-examined by Scarfo’s lawyer, Mr.and Luc Trempe, the former hitman, said he and suspected accomplices – Domenico Scarfo, a third individual whose name must be withheld and a fourth surnamed Pacer – began scouting around the condo building where lived Rocco Sollecito, on boulevard Saint-Elzéar in Laval, two weeks before the murder committed on May 27, 2016.

“We went at least twice between 8am and 10am. We stayed in our cars due to the presence of many cameras around the building. Dominic (Scarfo) was with us,” the witness said.

The ex-killer also explained that his accomplices had developed various plans to thwart the surveillance cameras, in particular to disguise themselves as a construction worker, wearing an orange bib, or as a postman, but that this was ruled out.

“Salvatore Scoppa was getting impatient. The shooter in the bus shelter was the best plan all along,” the former killer claimed.

The latter added that these tracking operations also targeted Mario Sollecito, and that he and Rocco Sollecito could have been killed at the same time if the circumstances had lent themselves to it.

As for the murder of Lorenzo Giordano, committed on March 1, 2016, it occurred while the hitman was in prison, where he was finishing his sentence.

The latter nevertheless said that Scarfo told him later that he had killed Giordano with a revolver.

The ex-killer last week told jurors he murdered two other people, brothers Vincenzo and Giuseppe Falduto, and added that he didn’t want to kill them and that the killings were ‘unforgivable’, before bursting into tears .

At the beginning of the examination and cross-examination, the witness refused to cooperate and lost his temper several times, but he recovered himself afterwards.

The cross-examination of the witness by Mr.and Trenching ended around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning. The trial will resume Wednesday morning.
