Trial of Benjamin Mendy: this Google search for a plaintiff greatly intrigues the jury…

The trial of Benjamin Mendy opened more than a week ago now and each day offers new twists in this affair, which is particularly publicized in France and England. It must be said that the seriousness of the charges against the footballer, world champion in 2018 with the Blues, is chilling. Accused of eight rapes, an attempted rape and a sexual assault by 7 different women for acts which allegedly took place between October 2018 and August 2021, the latter faces life imprisonment.

The first days of the trial were mainly devoted to the study of the personality of Benjamin Mendy, as well as his mansion, located in a secluded place and where he and his accomplice, Louis Saha Matturie (no connection with the footballer Louis Saha ), allegedly perpetrated several of the crimes with which they are charged. Since the beginning of the week, the testimonies of the women who accuse them have followed one another on the side of Chester in England and the fourth plaintiff has been heard in the last two days. She accuses the 28-year-old sportsman of having raped her during a party which would have taken place in July 2021 and after her testimony, the defense lawyer, Eleanor Laws was able to conduct a cross-examination.

A search in early January that questions Mendy’s lawyer

There to defend her client, who denies all the charges against him, the lawyer notably pointed to a Google search carried out by the young woman, whose name is withheld to preserve her identity, in January 2022, a few days before his testimony to the police. The latter would have carried out the following research: “How much is Benjamin Mendy worth?”. The lawyer then continues his cross-examination: “The next day you started writing on your phone an account of what happened with Mr. Mendy”she asks the complainant, who replies: “I do not remember”according to the transcript of the trial of the Manchester Evening News.

Benjamin Mendy remains presumed innocent of the charges against him until the final judgment.
