Since August 3 and until the start of the school year, the railway company Trenitalia offers tourists the chance to travel from Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, to the Italian city of Milan in six hours and 28 minutes. Inexpensive but long, this journey is struggling to find its audience.

The railway company Trenitalia is relaunching a Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) – Milan (Italy) route, but the customers are absent. At 5 p.m. at the Nice station, there are people on the platforms, but not for this Italian train. The journey is long: six hours and 28 minutes. The train goes via Genoa (Italy) then Milan. On board, there are more than 300 seats and only four passengers at the start. In first class, a couple is delighted. For 69 euros, we can go from Nice to Milan, there is no equivalent“, rejoices Arièle Partouche, a French tourist.

At the border, at the Ventimiglia station (Italy), you have to change locomotives, at the back and at the front. With these maneuvers, the train journey is longer than by car. To while away the time, there is a dinner served on the train, with a real tablecloth and real dishes. With the first class ticket at 69 euros, the meal is included. The Nice-Milan runs every weekend between France and Italy, a test that will last until the start of the school year.
